Several cookbooks were under the Christmas tree last week. In fact, the biggest surprise was when Mr Wonderful and I were handed two gifts to open at the same time. Little did we know that we had bought each other the same gift! Miss E knew all along that we had each purchased the same cookbook and could hardly wait to reveal what we had done. That was definitely a first however it was understandable since it was a cookbook we found at one of the many great restaurants we ate at while visiting Austin, TX last fall.
New Years Eve turned out to be a good day to try out some of the recipes however, before we could begin, we needed to make a quick trip to the market for some very specific grocery items. After that the kitchen was buzzing with activity. First off, spicy guacamole. Oh my, was it good.
Then he made Tomatillo Salsa Verde from his new Hot Sauce cookbook. The kids even gave him a nice bottling and labeling kit. This recipe is a keeper!
Up next, a new coleslaw recipe which was delicious. It is one of two we plan on trying this week.
These potatoes were so easy and tasted great. They were baked in our old cast iron skillet which we have had since early marriage and should probably use more often. Also, some rosemary from our garden. Fresh is best!
A new rub for the grilled chicken was great too.
We topped our chicken with the salsa verde which was suggested in the recipe. It was wonderful.
My contribution was homemade bread which I had been promising to make.
Lots of good cookin' the last couple of days! Sometimes a few new recipes are all you need to get inspired.
Happy Wednesday!
