Mr. Tomato Head

Edible markers were just what I needed to add a face to this funny little tomato.
What a fun garnish this will make on our next salad!

Happy Wednesday!!

Papa Picked a Peck of Pears!

And, oh my...
...there were plenty of pears to pick!
Of course I had to Prepare a Pear Pie with the Perfect Pears.
The remainder of our Plentiful Pears have been placed next to our Pretty Pumpkins.
They make a Perfect Pair, don't ya think!

Have a Pearfect Day!

Stuffed Bell Peppers

The garden is full of beautiful ripe tomatoes. The hubs likes to make tomato sauce each season so we always have a lot to use over the winter. I also try and use them in my cooking every chance I get since they are so delicious fresh from vine.
This week I picked a zucchini and some tomatoes to use in these Stuffed Bell Peppers.
Fresh garden produce makes everything taste so much better. At least I like to think so.
Lots of veggies, brown and white rice mixed with hamburger and cheese all stuffed into bell peppers. { It just occurred to me....maybe we should grow our own big bell peppers next year?? I just might suggest that. }
Topped with more cheese!
And baked to perfection.
I made a big batch so we had leftovers which was nice. Such an easy weeknight dinner.

Happy Saturday!

The first signs of FALL

Over the weekend something orange caught my eye in our little Pumpkin Patch which is hidden behind the tall tomato plants.
Yes, it was our pumpkins and they have finally turned orange.
At the end of July they were still green.
Once they started to change color though it sure didn't take long before they were completely orange.
Fall is right around the corner and it looks like our pumpkins will be ready!

Have a wonderful day!!

Peach Crumb Cake

The farm fresh peaches I brought home last week have been used in several delicious desserts.
This crumb cake was one of them and it was great for both breakfast and dessert.
We only have a few peaches left however it won't be long until our pears and apples are ready to pick.

Have a wonderful weekend!

this our hymn of grateful praise.

DIY ~ Wood Flower Box & Shop Stand Cabinet

The hubs has been busy lately with a couple quick DIY wood working projects.
We used to have beautiful window boxes full of flowers on the front of the house but like all houses ours needed repainting and the boxes had to come down. Unfortunately putting the window boxes back up never made it to the top of the to~do list after painting, until now.
Finally, after all this time, we are planning the return of the window boxes for next spring. So, in preparation, the hubs made a sample box for fun and to help us determine what style we like and would work best. I am not sure if the practice version will be the final design however the finished boxes will need to be larger and painted white to match our house trim.
In addition to the flower box he also made this storage cabinet for his Panel Cart/Shop Stand.
A couple weeks ago he happened to find plans online that were designed specifically for his cart and was so excited he began working on it the following day.
The cabinet is now finished and he is a happy camper.
This was a good little break during the hot weather however he is already back to his yard project.

Happy Saturday!

Peach Season

Fresh peaches are always a good idea so I ran out to a nearby farm at lunchtime today with my friend to pick up a few boxes of
free stone Veterans.
It was hard to decide how many to get and whether or not to get enough for canning since the season is almost over.
I only ended up getting one box however if I change my mind about canning I will have to go back out by tomorrow since that is their last day of picking.
I suspect the peaches I did bring home will be gone in no time!

Have a Fun Friday!

Summer Salads ~ continued

Summer is always a good time to try a new salad recipe so I looked through a few of my favorite cookbooks and found this
Two Rice Chicken Pecan Salad.
The brown rice and wild rice combination was really good and we also liked the chutney and orange dressing.
The perfect supper on a warm summer evening.

Happy Tuesday!!
