tassels & brads

Here are a couple of things I have been working on the past few days. Not super exciting but an important part of one of my GRAD projects.  Since I didn't have time to search for the perfect size and color of tassels I decided to make my own. I also wanted some black brads so I spray painted some pastel brads that I already had. I tried acrylic paint first and didn't like the way it turned out so I wiped off the paint and used the spray paint instead which I liked a lot better.
I will be back soon to show you the completed project!

Memorial Day

Our hearts are filled with gratitude as we remember
those who serve our country and their families.
{This little Patriotic quilt was made by my mother who gave it to me a couple weeks ago as a Grand Surprise.
Thanks MOM!}

GRAD prep

The end of the school year is quickly approaching and our youngest child is
GRADUATING
from high school
so I am now in
GRAD PREP MODE!
I have been busy preparing and my list of ideas keeps growing and growing however I am trying my best to narrow down the number of projects and recipes to a reasonable and attainable size and hopefully get everything finished before the big day. I do have a few projects checked off the to~do list already and hope to start taking photos soon so that I can get them posted. I revealed one of my surprises to the
"GRAD" today and she loved it so I am
happy, happy, happy!

Have a Wonderful Day!

Buttermilk Pie

This is the first time I  have ever made or eaten
Buttermilk Pie.
I had never even heard of a Buttermilk Pie until recently when a friend of ours told us about trying it in a restaurant in Texas a few weeks ago. Apparently it is popular in the south because we have some other friends, who used to live in Texas, who also like Buttermilk Pie and told us that it is a fairly common and well liked dessert there.  After hearing all the stories about this pie I was becoming curious and decided to  make one so that we could try it ~ but first I needed to find a recipe. I thought for sure I would find something similar to what they had described in one of my many cookbooks but after going through every one I could not find a single recipe for this southern custard~like pie. Next, I searched online where I finally found some promising recipes which I narrowed down to two very different versions. The first looked quick and easy with few ingredients, high ratings and lots of reviews. The other had more steps, required more time but would produce a more traditional pie. They both looked interesting so I went ahead and made one of each. I have to say, we thought both were very good, especially while still warm and topped with freshly whipped cream.
This pie only has a few ingredients and no crust.
It had 181 reviews and a 5 star rating so I thought it was worth trying.
{I caramelized some sugar on top which is not called for in this recipe.}
This recipe takes more time. It has a lot of steps and a lot more ingredients than the one above. We liked this one too.

If you want to try making a Buttermilk Pie you can find the recipes
 here and here.

Happy Thursday!

PROM {hair, make~up, flowers}

It is PROM season
and last Saturday was the big night for our high school.
We spent a fun day at appointments in preparation for the special event.
The first stop was at the salon
for an up~do!
next stop:
and the last stop....
Miss E saw several of her friends during the day
all doing the same thing
which was fun.

Once we picked up the boutonniere it was time to head home so that she could get ready and we could take a few pictures before leaving for the PROM dinner

It was a busy, fun~filled day!

When in Rome {PROM dinner}

PROM night was last Saturday!

The weather was absolutely beautiful
so an outdoor Italian themed dinner for a
"party of 16"
high school SENIORS
was the perfect way to start the evening.
The host family did not have much time to prepare this amazing PROM dinner party. In fact, they ONLY had
 3 days
notice!
That isn't much time to plan, however, in spite of the very short timeline, the parents, along with the help of a co-worker and her husband, put together this extra special PROM dinner full of fun details and delicious food. It was wonderful!

Cinco de Mayo {cupcakes}

These are some cupcakes I made for an early
Cinco de Mayo

Happy sunny Saturday!
and
{to everyone who  loves Star Wars}
May the 4th be with you!!
