West Coast GIANT PUMPKIN REGATTA { weekend fun }

My sister and I spent the afternoon at the
West Coast
GIANT PUMPKIN REGATTA.
The day starts off with a 5K run followed by pie eating contests, pumpkin decorating, music, food, crafts to make and to buy and of course the big pumpkin races on the lake.
Giant Pumpkins are hollowed out and decorated and may paddlers are dressed in costume.

A fun way to spend the day!

deviled eggs { pumpkins & spiders }

I served these fun deviled eggs with our Sunday Supper.
I figure if I'm going to make deviled eggs
why not make them
cute!
I use paprika to make the pumpkins orange and cut a green onion for the stem and of course black olives to make the spiders.

spritz PUMPKIN cookies

I made a quick batch of cute little pumpkin cookies over the weekend.
It seems like it takes longer to clean up afterwards than actually making these cookies but that is the beauty of using a cookie press.
I didn't have any orange sprinkles on hand so I used clear instead and small green jimmies for the stems.
This is about as easy as it gets!

Happy Monday!

Vintage Paris ~ SORORITY ROOM REVEAL

The Sorority Room Reveal is finally here!
All week I have shared projects Miss E and I worked on for her sorority study room. Today I am ready to show you how it all looked in their room.
Miss E was chosen to be a room head and was assigned a two person study room which means she was responsible for choosing a theme, getting it approved and then decorating the room. Decorating included curtains for the closets and window, coordinating chair covers, theme related items for the shelves and walls and matching trim for the edge of the shelves.
Once we moved all her things up to her 3rd floor room we began to decorate.
Her approved room theme was:
~ VINTAGE PARIS ~
The girls decided the curtains over the window looked best without french handwriting so we left them plain however we did fold over the top just like the closet curtains and also used the same paint cloth fabric and clips.

Miss E is borrowing the Eiffel Tower picture from her cousin who was also a room head and used it in her sorority study room  at U of O last year.
DIY Sorority letters above the window.
The top of the refrigerator/freezer works perfect for their coffee/tea supplies.
Here is an up close look at the shelves.
She trimmed all the shelves with pink grosgrain ribbon that matched the pink Initials. She also included some adorable squirrels around the room since
the squirrel
is the
Alpha Gamma Delta
mascot.
We LOVE her new squirrel lamp!
It actually came with a plain white barrel lamp shade but we thought it would be fun to look for something that went more with the room theme and found this beautiful french shade.
We also found this perfect finial for the top.
The desks are pretty small so to make the surface larger I had a piece of  thick plastic cut to fit the space between the closet and the wall and then pulled the desk forward until it was even with the closet. This made more room on the desk top and prevents things from falling off the back and sides of the desk.

Since the desks are also quite old the tops are inevitably showing signs of use and age. To cover up the well loved desk top I found some great french tissue paper which we placed on top before putting down the plastic. We really like how it looks and it ties in great with the rest of the room. Miss E plans on putting some fun pictures underneath as well.
The original plan was to hang the Bonjour Acorn sign on the door until we found out that matching name signs had already been made for every study room door. Miss E decided to hang the Bonjour Acorns on the wall beside her desk instead to balance out the Eiffel Tower picture next to her roommates desk.
Here are her roommates shelves.
More cute squirrels,  Eiffel Towers, chalkboards, candles and tins.
We only forgot a couple things on move in day but the most important one was the iron so we were not able to press things before I left or when I took pictures.
I had to leave the job of ironing up to the girls.
So that is her fun

DIY "Vintage Paris" chair covers { sorority study room }

Yesterday I shared the  "Vintage Paris" Curtains for the closets and window in the Sorority Study Room. After the curtains were finished we realized we had enough leftover paint drop cloth fabric to make matching "Vintage Paris" Chair Covers. This is how the chairs looked before we covered them.
I actually took my sewing machine and set it up in the study room and made the chair covers there since I did not have measurements or a template of the chairs to work with at home. I also brought a staple gun and a screwdriver to securely attach the seat covers to the cushion. While the girls prepared for recruitment/rush I sat in the room and sewed and visited with members and alums that stopped by to check out the room.
I had a lot of long narrow pieces of fabric leftover and decided to make a small, simple ruffle along the bottom of the chair cover back. I left the bottom edge unfinished and frayed to give it a more vintage look. When the girls got back to the room and saw the ruffle I had added they liked it, which was a relief since I hadn't passed that by them for approval,
however,
 it was nothing a seam ripper could not have fixed.
To decorate the back of the chair covers I printed a french graphic and fused it to pieces of the drop cloth to give the chairs more of a "Vintage Paris" look. We decided not to put anything on the other side of the chair back or seat since it would be facing the desk and would get worn off with use.
The chair covers were easy to make, coordinated with the room theme and satisfied the requirements of the sorority room committee. Another fun project!

I will post the
Sorority Room Reveal
tomorrow
so you can see all the projects and how the room looked when we were finished.

Happy Friday!

DIY "Vintage Paris" curtains { sorority study room }

Another project for the Sorority Study Room was to make curtains for the closets and window that coordinated with the room theme. We shopped for fabric, looked at shower curtains and regular curtains but could not find exactly what we were looking for until one day it occurred to me that a paint drop cloth might work. The color was right and the price was much better than the other options we were considering so after explaining my idea to Miss E she thought we should give it a try.
We decided to cut the curtains quite generously since we were not confident we had the exact measurements. We left enough room lengthwise to adjust the curtains at the top by folding over any extra length which would make a fun ruffle and sewed a nice wide curtain hem along the bottom. It worked perfect.
To make the drop cloth fabric a bit more interesting we decided to write "french" words on it to keep with the room theme. We used a permanent brown marker and tried to emulate old handwriting to make it appear more vintage. We did not worry if the words were perfect since the curtains would be gathered most of the time.
The cafe rings worked great but the tension rods we bought for the closets could not hold the weight of the curtains so we ended up buying wood dowels and painting them brown. It worked much better.
We were very pleased with how the curtains turned out.
In fact, it worked so well that we used the
leftover drop cloth fabric for another
Sorority Study Room project
which I will share
tomorrow!
