Roller Skate Card

Popping in with another DIY birthday card.
Our daughter~in~law wanted to go roller skating for her birthday this year so I jumped at the chance to make a “Skate” themed card for her.
This roller skating card was fun to put together. All the pieces of the skate were hand cut, hole punched and outlined with markers and metallic pens. The cute pink striped ribbon was laced through the holes and I found this wonderful polkadot "B" in my stash, which is her initial, and added that to the back. The heel was an afterthought and come to find out, the skates she used had a heel also. Even Better!
The striped ribbon shoelace, sequins and her initial were my favorite parts of the card.
It came together pretty quickly with supplies I had on hand.
Simple but so fun!
They had a great time skating and and so did I...making the card!

Birthday Cards made with Playing Cards!

A deck of cards is all you need to make these fun birthday cards.
It just so happened that I had several decks of playing cards that were given to me a long time ago by a friend who gets them free from a near by casino. She loves a great deal and they were perfect for these father/son cards.
We celebrated my brother-in-law and nephews 60th and 30th December birthdays together at a fun party so I wanted the theme of their cards to coordinate.
They both love to play games so the playing cards were perfect.
Choosing the cards and arranging them was fun and took the most time, which is not surprising.
It was fairly quick and easy after that.
Once the birthday cards were finished I got an another idea!
A little something to go with the cards.
MORE CARDS!
Actually, a personalized DECK of CARDS for each of them.
There you have it…birthday cards made with recycled playing cards and personalized playing cards as gifts. FUN!

'tis the season for .... Christmas Cards

This was a fun and easy little THANK YOU card.
The felt hearts and bakers twine added texture and dimension while the sequins gave the tree some sparkle.
The little tree itself was cut freehand so you might say it is "one of a kind". 😉
The little imperfections give it some character which softens it a bit.
With a quick change of words and maybe colors too it would make a great Christmas card as well. Lots of possibilities.

Saturday Morning Sweet Treat

Saturday morning ooey gooey Sweet Treats to go with hot coffee or tea while watching Football Game Day with a friend.
That is the fall routine and last weekend we were serving' up
Pecan Caramel Rolls
warm from the oven.
The "Special" is different each week because it rotates and new treats are added to the list so it is always a surprise.
Rest assured though,
there is and always will be
something sweet to eat on Saturday morning.

PS...ONLY 2DAYS until THANKSGIVING!

Denim Pocket Angel :: Christmas Ornament

Popping in with a fun Denim Pocket project. My sister sent me a picture of some Denim Angels and they were so cute that I put everything on hold and started making one right away.
It really helped that I already had a stack of assorted denim pockets to form the angel and miscellaneous items to complete the project. Hopefully there will be more to share but only time will tell. For now it is back to Thanksgiving preparations.

Happy Monday!

Thanksgiving Planner

Thanksgiving will be here in less than a week and my DIY Planner is filling up quickly.
It sure helps keeping everything organized and on track so that it all runs smoothly.
Also, not sure how that “Christmas tree” snuck in there (haha) but Christmas is not be far behind.

Happy Saturday!

mini Pumpkin Cakes

These little cakes were a fun dessert to make for, what I would call, a Friendsgiving.
Our group consists of moms that became friends way back when our children { now adults } were in grade school. We have remained close and try to get together as a group once or twice a year. We always have a wonderful variety of food to enjoy while we catch up.
Since it is still pumpkin season these little cakes seemed like a good choice to make for our potluck.
And, since I was making them into mini Pumpkins I figured I would add a stem and chocolate leaf to each one to make them extra festive.
The DIY chocolate leaves were made first so the chocolate could harden while I baked the cakes. There was actually enough batter leftover to make a 9x9 bonus cake as well.
Cream cheese frosting is always good with pumpkin cake so that was the filling. I had plenty  of  leftover frosting so was able to frost the cake as well. It was the perfect amount for both.
According to the ladies, the more frosting the better!
I like how they think
because that is my feeling too.

Happy Wednesday!

Always Better Together

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: if either of them falls down, one can help the other up. Ecclesiastes 4: 9-10

DIY :: Med Student Birthday Card

This fun little card took a lot of twists and turns in the making.
Sometimes ideas are hard to come by when you need them and other times there are too many to choose from. It’s a conundrum, however, when they are plentiful it is fun to try them all, which I usually do and did this time. That resulted in three different card front ideas that I had to choose from and I can say from experience it is not always easy.
This little guy was fun. He looks like he has been on a lot of long shifts at the hospital seeing patients and is ready for a Birthday break. He started out as a plain, ordinary, blue monster however once I added a white coat, pants, a belt, stethoscope, clipboard and some balloons he looked a bit more like a med student on rotations who is ready for a break to celebrate his birthday.
For the inside of the card I made a pegboard to hold a clipboard, white coat on a mini hanger and a stethoscope which were all handmade. The place to hang up the things you won’t need when you are Off~Duty.
The back of the card has a doodle at the bottom and below are some of the doodles for the card before it all came together.
The element squares took a little extra time to make however once they were ready and printed they were easy to cut and mount.  The little white coat fit on the itty bitty DIY hanger perfectly.
The other design for the front was a pair of hiking boots with a tag attached to the back that also says “Off duty”. The name badge and a space for the birthday message were on the inside of the card, opposite the pegboard. So there you have it. The birthday card run down.
Every year is a new adventure and we can hardly wait to see what is ahead.

Happy Thursday!
