We Still Do BBQ: food

Last weekend was Denim & Diamonds 60th Anniversary Celebration for our parents. We held the BBQ in their backyard which really works great and is just beautiful.
My sister and I made snacks to serve during the afternoon along with assorted beverages.
Fresh homemade buttered Popcorn and Caramel Corn were on my list to make
The tags were quick and fun to make. I piled up all the bags of caramel corn in the cute tin tray which was from my sister.
Once everyone arrived we set up the buffet for dinner.
My sister and I made all the food except for the meat which our husbands did for us. We made a variety of salads to go with the meat which included a Mediterranean Pasta Salad, a Ramen Noodle Cabbage Slaw, Corn Salad and the Peanut Pasta Salad.
Homemade Cornbread Muffins and Watermelon were also on the menu.
There is just one more post to share about our 60th Anniversary Celebration, which you may have already guessed....the Desserts! I will be back to share what we served and our unique cake challenge.

Happy Saturday!!

We Still Do BBQ: table decorations

Our Denim & Diamonds 60th Wedding Anniversary Celebration was a lot of fun. It was a beautiful day however a cool breeze picked up late in the morning which made setting up a little tricky. My nephew came to the rescue though and placed rocks on the denim pockets to hold down the plates which worked great. By the time the guests arrived the wind was gone and it was sunny and warm just as we had hoped.
Over the past several months my sisters and I planned and exchanged ideas for the party through phone calls, meetings and even photos, such as the one below, so that we were all on the same page.  As our plans developed we began dividing up the tasks which included crafting, cooking and shopping.
Mason Canning Jars painted to look like denim was something on my decoration to do list. My youngest sister offered to take on that project which helped a bunch. She collected some of our mothers canning jars before the party so the finished jars were extra special. During one of our meetings we decided to create a crossword puzzle and came up with meaningful words related to our parents. We placed copies on the tables along with pencils which I placed in repurposed Oui Yogurt jars from our Queen Bee Tea Party that I had decorated with diamond trim.
Party favors are always fun and can be easy to make. I found these cute little snack cups at the Dollar Store which I could not resist. At first I was going to fill them with Hershey® Kisses but later decided to make white chocolate covered mini pretzels for the cups and scatter the Kisses on the table instead.
I designed some personalized labels to fit the lids and had the cups finished but few days before the party our head count increased and I needed more cups. Unfortunately both stores that were close by were sold out of the round cups so I picked up a package of the square and made a slightly different label which coordinated with the others.
And of course more Bling!
Our middle sister sent me pictures she took of photos in our parents wedding album so decided it would be fun to frame them and set one on each table. I picked up a variety of different sized picture frames and more diamond trim at the Dollar Store and had the photos printed in black and white to fit the frames.
The pictures worked great on the tables next to the pretty Mason Canning Jars filled with flowers.
There is more to share so I will be back tomorrow with details about the food and dessert.

Have a Fabulous Friday!

We Still Do ~ BBQ : 60th Wedding Anniversary

Last Saturday we celebrated our parents
60th Wedding Anniversary
with a family BBQ in their backyard.
Our theme was a We Still Do ~ Denim & Diamonds BBQ and since my sisters and I do not live near by it was also another Party on Wheels. In other words, we prepare everything at our homes such as decorations, food, supplies, etc. and then load up and deliver the party to their house.
The planning and preparation actually started about two months ago and was a lot of fun.
We displayed our Mothers Wedding Dress on a trellis along with a collage I create with photos from their wedding album and their 50th Anniversary party. Our mom is an amazing  quilter so we also displayed a variety of family photos on ribbon that I stretched across my standing quilt hoop.
I bedazzled some mini clothes pins I had to clip the pictures to the ribbon.
I asked Mr. Wonderful if he would make a Photo Booth Frame for the party and he delivered! He thought the frame needed some flowers in the corners so we reused the flowers from the  tea party Bee Hives Miss E and I made this spring which did add a nice touch.
There is much more to share so I will be back soon with more decorations, fun favors and of course food.

Happy Wednesday!

We Still Do BBQ Invitations ~ Denim & Diamonds

Oh my,  how time flies! It has been a busy year so far and there is still more to come. June 2019 happens to be extra special as it is our parents
60th Wedding Anniversary
this month and we are planning a celebration!
Since this is the "DIAMOND" anniversary we decided on a Denim & Diamonds party theme and to keep it casual it will be a family backyard BBQ.  Once the theme was decided I got to work on the invitations.
My original idea was to print stitching around the edges which would have been so easy. However, the card stock was not printed to look like denim but actually covered with fabric so I changed my mind and decided to sew the edges instead.
I used the paperclips to hold the pocket in place while I sewed the square onto the rectangle.
There ended up being a lot of parts to assemble but they went together fairly quick.
Once the invitation was sewn together it was time to added some bling!
Also, the cute little pocket really needed something tucked inside to make it stand out a bit more so I decided to make a save the date tag just for fun.
To finish the back I stamped each invitation with a pretty heart.
In the beginning I was not sure which color to use so I made invites using both the light and dark. After consulting with Miss E about which denim to send the guests we decided that the lighter colored version looked more casual and coordinated with the overall theme.
The invitations have been sent and my sisters and I { aka: Three Sisters Events Co. } are busy preparing for the backyard BBQ and praying for good weather!

Happy Saturday!

Let the Berry Picking begin!

It is official, the farms are open and ready for U~pick strawberries.
Hoffman Farms is one of our favorite places to pick berries.
They have a nice variety.
However, I decided to only pick Hood this time since I wanted to make jam. The kids on the other hand decided to pick a couple different types.
We each picked a bucketful.
I had enough for a batch of jam, some simple strawberry shortcakes and a bowl full for snacking.
It was a fun day in the strawberry field with the kids!

Strawberry season is here!

It is June 1st and we have our first ripe strawberries ~ hooray!
Unfortunately we do not have enough strawberry plants to produce enough berries for jam so I will go out to our favorite farm with our kids over the next few weeks and pick what I need for a few batches. That is always fun!

Happy Saturday, Happy June!!
