Baby Shower Desserts ~ Giraffe Roll Cake

I couldn't resist making this adorable Giraffe Roll Cake to go with  the
 Although it isn't perfect and my only two pictures are not very good, all and all I was very happy with my first attempt at a patterned cake.
I would definitely make this cake again with just a few minor recipe adjustments.

Happy Tuesday!

Baby Shower Desserts ~ cupcakes

A couple weeks ago a friend asked me if I would be interested in baking dessert for a baby shower for her niece who is also a friend of mine.  Of course the answer was yes! She  said the theme was zoo animals and suggested a cake or cupcakes for approximately 24 guests. Other than that, the choices were up to me.
Since the mother~to~be loves Snickers Pie I decided to try making Snickers Cupcakes. I started by baking a dozen chocolate cakes and then made some salted caramel sauce.
Once the cupcakes had cooled I filled the middle with peanut butter nougat,
frosted the tops with peanut butter, salted caramel frosting,
spooned chocolate ganache over the frosting, drizzled the top with salted caramel sauce and then topped them off with
brown DIY Elephant Cupcake Picks.
I also made a dozen vanilla cupcakes with vanilla buttercream frosting and sprinkles. They were topped with the coordinating white DIY Elephant Cupcake Picks. The cupcakes turned out just how I had hoped, however, I didn't stop there.
Yes, you guessed it, there is one more dessert!

Tomorrow I will share the fun animal themed cake that I made as well.

Have a marvelous Monday!

DIY Baby Shower Cupcake Picks

Here are the fun elephant cupcake picks I made this week for a zoo animal themed baby shower on Saturday. I used a little elephant rubber stamp and brown ink for the image and the edges are tinted with brown ink for contrast.
The toppers were for two different batches of cupcakes I baked for the shower
which I will post tomorrow.

Happy Monday!

Easter 2017 ~ festive food

It is always hard to whittle down the holiday menus to a somewhat reasonable length when there are so many tasty traditional "must have" items as well as the optional but "oh so fun" choices that are so festive.
Easter Bunny Hummus Bread Bowl
The bread I picked for the Bunny Bread Bowl was a bit out of proportion in relation to the roll for the head which was disappointing. Though after some thought, I decided it might work to trim the loaf down to a more proportional size which worked out ok. In spite of the color difference I think our little bunny was still pretty cute.
Deviled Egg Chicks
My deviled egg plate is flat in the middle however I wanted the "chicks" to stand upright so I cut out 4 clear Costco egg carton sections keeping them attached in the middle. It worked great.
Angel Food Cupcakes
We usually have an Angel Food Cake for Easter however I had never tried making cupcakes. They were easy and turned out well but we decided we prefer the traditional tube cake version.
Marinated Carrot Salad
Always a favorite!
{ or at least one of my favorites }
Lemon Curd Mousse Parfaits ~ gluten free
{ Lemon Meringue Pie ~ back right }
Potted Carrots in Hummus
These little pots of hummus and carrots were just too cute! The little flower pots were some I painted several years ago for My Favorite Things Tea Party. They were perfect for the carrots.

Happy Tuesday!
