Heirloom hankie baby bonnet

Sunday afternoon Miss E and I attended the sweetest baby shower for one of our dear friends. It was so much fun. They had thought of everything, right down to the last detail!
About a month before the shower the gender was revealed so we knew they were having a little girl. Miss E and I had a fun time shopping and wrapping up the gifts however there was one other small gift I wanted to give her.
Years ago I used to make Wedding Hankie Baby Bonnets as shower gifts for the babies of my friends who were expecting however I had not made one for a long time, until  now. This was the perfect opportunity to start making them again. This time though, instead of wrapping it in a standard box, I made a keepsake explosion box to hold the bonnet and reveal the poem that goes with it.
The food was beautiful as well as delicious!
The decorations were adorable!
So many precious details which also included a pink candy bar, hand painted chalkboard, heirloom table, photo booth, and the list goes on. Unfortunately I did not get pictures of everything because we were busy playing fun and creative baby shower games.
It was a shower to remember and we are looking forward to meeting little Miss Margaret Grace!

Have a wonderful Wednesday!!

Rainbow Cupcakes

For our St. Patrick's Day Sunday Supper I wanted to make a special dessert to go with our traditional Corned Beef and Cabbage meal.
I decided to bake a small batch of festive Rainbow cupcakes which were easy and fun to make. I used my favorite chocolate cupcake recipe, made simple buttercream frosting and used candy for decoration.
It doesn't get easier than that.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Squirrels Nest progress ~ { DIY attic project }

Welcome back to the Squirrels Nest!
Our DIY attic project has been in a holding pattern for a couple weeks however work should resume soon.
The stairs are just about finished and look much better as you can see in the before and after pictures.
Two sided bookshelves have been added to the top of wall around the staircase for more organization and storage.
Both sides are easily accessible and can hold books or small storage boxes.
A little more trim work and some paint and the shelves should be just about finished.

Have a wonderful Saturday!

Happy {belated} Pi Day!

Yesterday was 3.14 which was National Pi Day! I always send a text to all the kids to wish them Happy Pi Day. They think I am nerdy but in reality I just like a reason to celebrate.
π
Of course I like to make a pie for Pi Day however last night there were just two of us for dinner so I decided to make 2 mini pies instead.
Since I do not have any mini pie plates I decided to use ramekins.
To make the pies I just used my old favorite apple pie recipe and reduced it down to what I thought would work.
As it turned out it was the perfect amount for two.
My Pi symbol did not have as much flare as I had hoped but I did not have much pie crust left to work with and I was in a hurry so didn't have time to be fussy.
We covered our warm pies with ice~cream so the simple Pi symbol didn't really last for long anyway. Miss E and I enjoyed every last bite of our Pi Day mini apple pies!

Celebrating Success

What better way to celebrate exciting news than with a toast, a delicious dinner and a chocolate dessert?!
It was just Miss E and me for our celebration dinner so I made our favorite chicken salad. Once we sat down to eat we had so much fun I didn't even think about taking a picture to share however I have posted it before so you can find a photo here. After we finished eating I cleared the table while Miss E whipped up her wonderful Molten Lava Cakes.
Oh my goodness, they are divine.
She only makes them when it is just the two of us since the boys are not as fond of rich desserts as we are.
We eat them straight from the oven, of course, sometimes with powdered sugar sprinkled on top and always with a generous scoop of ice cream.
It was the perfect celebration dinner!

Happy Saturday!

Southern Sunday Supper

Happy March! We still have a little snow left from a late winter storm earlier in the week however I see signs of spring popping up in our flower beds. The snow has been around since Sunday which is also the day we had planned a Southern meal for Sunday Supper. We decided that even if everyone could not make it over to the house, due to the road conditions and reports of more snow on the way, that we would go ahead with the menu.
About a week ago Mr. Wonderful decided to make his Jambalaya and asked if I would make hush puppies to go with it. I agreed even though I had never eaten a hush puppy and did not really know what it was, much less how it tasted. The Jambalaya is a recipe from one of his cookbooks that he has made before however it took me some time to choose a dessert recipe for this Southern meal.
I finally settled on a Pecan Pie Cake recipe.
Sunday was busy so I was a little bit behind which meant I did not get the cake started until early afternoon. By the time I was ready to frost the cake it was after 4:00 but finished it just as the kids arrived. Whew! It may not have looked just how I intended but it tasted great.
The Jambalaya was wonderful as always and the hush puppies were very easy to make and tasked great with it. I used a very basic recipe however next time we make them we plan to spice them up a bit more. The Southern Sunday Supper was perfect comfort food for a snowy day.

Have a wonderful Friday!
