J & C's Kitchen Makeover ~ PART 6: Tile & Flooring

Our DIY Kitchen Makeover
is in the
home stretch!
This past week was spent finishing up the tiling.
The floors, which look like wood planks, are actually ceramic tiles so, needless to say, there was a lot of grout work required between both the back splash and the floor.
The flooring extends into the breakfast nook and also down the hall leading to the garage and in the downstairs bathroom.
It's beginning to take shape!
This weekend the grout will be sealed and once it is dry the appliances can be moved back in place.
The doors to the upper cabinets will also be added this weekend and hopefully the door knobs and drawer pulls although J & C are having a hard time finding exactly what they are looking for. Once they decide on the hardware though it won't take long to add.

There is one upper cabinet currently under construction which will have glass doors and shelves. It will go on the wall above the stand alone cabinet between the doorways.

Have a great Saturday!

Bundtlettes & Rolls

I baked some goodies to take to a
Saturday Morning Family Coffee Klatch
at my younger sisters house today.
First I made Almond Poppy Seed Bundtlettes drizzled with an orange glaze and then topped with toasted almond slices.
{ which I decided to add after I took the photo above }
I also baked some Pecan Breakfast Rolls covered in a honey vanilla glaze which are similar to cinnamon rolls however they have a lighter texture than traditional cinnamon rolls and take less time to make.
It was a wonderful relaxed morning sitting around the kitchen table drinking coffee and tea, nibbling on treats and chatting it up while unbeknownst to us,
afternoon had replaced morning and before we knew it
it was time to bid adieu, however,
I think we would all agree
that we had savored every minute of our day together
as we always do.

For the Pecan Breakfast Roll recipe go here.

Blueberry Poppy Seed Brunch Cake .... & ....................... a SNEAK PEEK of ................

J&C's Kitchen
Cabinet INSTALLATION !
I was in the mood to bake the night before last and had just the right amount of fresh blueberries to make this yummy Blueberry Poppy Seed Brunch Cake. This recipe was given to me years ago by my dear friend Sandy and I have made it many times. It is not only a favorite recipe to make and serve but I love that it is handwritten on a recipe card which makes it just that much more special.
This brunch cake is easy to make and is delicious for breakfast or anytime for that matter. As you can see it was a Pillsbury Bake off Winner so you don't have to take my word for it and can find a copy of the recipe here.
Below
Here is a little sneak peek at the installation of J&C's DIY custom kitchen cabinets, subway tile and flooring.
The excitement is building as the
BIG REVEAL
of the newly completed kitchen
including

J & C's Kitchen Makeover ~ PART 5: DIY custom kitchen cabinets { uppers, countertops & DEMO WEEK }

The cabinet construction for J&C's new kitchen is coming along.
All the uppers have been made and painted and counter tops are in progress.
This upper cabinet goes above the refrigerator. It is laying upside down for painting purposes so the cubbies will actually be on the bottom when it is installed.

Below you can see one of the counter tops.
and FINALLY....
....what we have all been anxiously waiting for...
DEMO WEEK!
Good~bye
OLD KITCHEN
Demolition began on Monday and cabinet removal started around Wednesday.
Soffits were removed to fit taller upper cabinets for more storage space.
New boards and fresh paint as well as a good cleaning before the new sink cabinet is installed.

Installation of the new cabinets began today so I will have pictures to post soon.

Happy Saturday!

J & C's Kitchen Makeover ~ PART 4: DIY custom kitchen cabinets

Finally, an update on the kitchen cabinets!

Progress has been a bit slow the past couple of months due to business travel and holidays, however, slowly but surely the cabinets are coming along and installation is anticipated in January, which is very exciting. I expect it will feel like Christmas all over again once we begin loading the cabinets for delivery.
Beadboard was chosen for the cabinet door insets and all the doors are fitted with soft closing hinges.
The drawers in the lower cabinets feature self~closing glides and melamine bottoms for easy cleaning.
This lower cabinet has two pullout shelves behind double doors and a large pop out cutting board above the wide upper drawer.
Two handy tip out panels are in the cabinet which will hold kitchen sink.
Painting continues in stages. Doors and drawer fronts were being painted this particular day.
The upper cabinet boxes have been made and doors as well as shelves for those are almost finished so more painting is scheduled for early this week. I am hoping to have pictures of the upper cabinets posted once they are completed.

It is going to be an exciting month as this project wraps up and J & C's beautiful new kitchen is finally installed. The anticipation is growing!

Happy Saturday!
