The DIY Home Improvement Projects were in full swing the week after our walk through tour. First on the list were floors.
All of the flooring and carpet in the house was removed starting with the black floor in the kitchen.
It was also decided that the sunken living room floor should be raised and...
...the open doorway in the kitchen should be moved over to make the space more functional. As it was, the interior kitchen wall was set so narrow that standard sized cabinets and appliances did not fit. To remedy the issue the Hubs suggested moving the doorway so that the wall could be extended to a standard depth creating an area for cabinets and a home for the refrigerator. Before this, the refrigerator did not have a designated space. His idea was brilliant.
So, with that, an upper kitchen cabinet on the opposite side was removed and the wall was cut out to make way for the shift.
The extension was then framed in, the light switch was moved, an outlet added and then drywall installed.
For an added touch, he arched the doorway. He thinks of everything.
While the mud was drying it was back to the living room floor.
The guys had it framed in and level in no time.
This was also a good opportunity to check out the crawl space and move some wiring.
Then it was on to laying the moisture barrier and then the underlayment.
After some instructions and a quick demonstration it was all hands on deck. We had an efficient assembly line so it did not take long to get the underlayment down throughout the entire house.
There was also time to patch the ceiling where the living room wall was taken down.
