50th Wedding Anniversary {card}

I made my aunt & uncle a card

for their 

50th Wedding Anniversary

which we celebrated yesterday at our cousins home. It was so much fun to get together with everyone for such a special occasion.

My aunt and uncle now join a long list of relatives, in both of our families, that have celebrated 50 years of marriage; both of our parents, as well as our grandparents and 4 out of 6 {soon to be 5 out of 6} of our aunts and uncles {both families, both sides}! How amazing is that??! 

We are so very blessed by their example!

This week I replenished my stock of Little Wallets and Tissue Pockets. I started making matching sets which is fun and I also made some singles. I have a few more that I will try and get posted tomorrow.

Monkey {birthday} Cake

What a fun weekend!!

Saturday we had another birthday dinner, this time for our oldest son and his wife who both have birthdays in April. For dessert I couldn't decide between Monkey Cake/Cupcakes {she loves monkeys} or Apple Dumplings {he loves apple dumplings} so I made both.

These are the extra cupcakes decorated with the leftover frosting. 

Since I made the cake, cupcakes, apple dumplings and special birthday dinner all on Saturday I only had time to make the two {his and hers} monkey cupcakes so this was a quick way to frost the the rest of the cupcakes.

Saturday project ~ YARDSTICK BOXES!

I am so excited about my new 

yardstick boxes!!

Two years ago I bought three yardsticks in the hopes of turning them into party favors for my Sweet Simplici"tea" but time ran short and I had to put the idea on the back burner. Yesterday however,  I was finally able to mark this little project off my to~do list {YAY} and I am SO HAPPY with how they turned out! Ron actually helped me with them since I needed to use his tools to make the boxes. My part was mostly design and supervision while he was in charge of  power tools and project construction. I have to say I did not come up with this cute idea. The inspiration actually came from a wonderful yardstick box my mother purchased at the Temecula Quilt Co. in Temecula ,  CA. I noticed it one day while I was in her sewing room and I had been wanting to make some ever since.

I made this small batch of birthday cupcakes last night. 

We are going to surprise a friend at church this morning with the cupcakes and a cup of coffee~FUN, FUN!!!

Hello Kitty {cake & cupcakes}

I made this cake & matching cupcakes yesterday for a

Hello Kitty

 birthday party.

It is a three layer vanilla cake with butter cream frosting and matching mini cupcakes. The Hello Kitty on the top and sides of the cake are marshmallows and the toppers on the cupcakes are icing so almost everything is edible. Instead of writing the birthday details on the cake I made a coordinating cake pick.

Miss E made this wonderful RED mini colander in her ceramics class. The glaze she chose matches our kitchen tile perfectly! 

It is about the size of a cereal bowl.

Perfect for small quantities.

When I make {fresh} harvard beets

it always reminds me of watching my grandma make them.

She didn't use a recipe,

she just added enough butter, sugar, flour and vinegar to her steamed whole or diced beets until they were perfect

{and they always were}
