Choosing Carpet & Paint :: DIY Home Improvement

Our Home Improvements continue. After years of the same paint colors and carpet we finally decided it was time to make some changes to the upstairs hallway, our stairs and the downstairs bathroom.

We brought home carpet samples to compare with the new paint colors and lighting in the house and began the process of narrowing that down. Our goal was to have all the painting finished and the new stairs installed before the carpet arrived and had to be schedule between a trip we took, our sons wedding and thier wedding reception. Timing  has been everything. 

Once the holes from the wiring were patched the texturing and painting could continue.

Mr. Wonderful painted the house by day and then painted wainscoting and molding at night while the walls dried. Some of the wainscoting was ready to be installed as soon the wiring was finished.

We made trips to several lighting stores to look for a new entry fixture. Ours was the original 80's brass fixture. The photo above shows a light fixture superimposed on top of our old one so it is a bit hard to see however you can find the current fixture in a couple of photos in this post. It helped us to see how different fixtures would look in our entry before making the final decision.

More of the old stair railing was removed and another temporary one installed.

It was a bit tricky going down the stairs like this however we managed successfully (no injuries).

More wiring required. 

The new solid core interior doors all need to be sanded and painted. 

June 10

We were so excited about the new updated look that we put some of our framed pictures back up on the wall just for fun. We love the new solid core, paneled doors and the new wainscoting. We began removing carpet and padding so that we could clean the floor well before the new carpet is laid.

Here is a picture of the NEW wall vent which we like so much better. In my last post the vent was still in the floor.

Lots of painting to do and still working on wainscoting to get ready for carpeting. I will be back soon to give another update on our current DIY Home Improvement project.
