Our annual Mother ~ Daughter Tea Party was last Saturday and we could not have asked for a more beautiful day.
Miss E and I welcomed our guests with a sign in the lawn. I asked Mr. Wonderful if he would mind making me an easel for the tea party and he said no problem. It took me longer to paint it than it did for him to make but it turned out just how I had hoped.
I thought our Queen Bee Patisserie should have cute striped awnings and decided I could make them myself. I started saving boxes that I thought might work as the base. The awning over the front door actually took two boxes to make it long enough. At one point they were not working out as I had imagined so I decided to scrap the idea and focus on other more important party details. After a few days though I couldn't quit thinking about the awnings and tried again. This time it just came together which made me so happy. We spray painted the awnings white, used canning jar lids as the guide to trace the scallops and used wrapping paper cut into strips to cover the top. I love when a plan comes together.
We filled the basket on the door with flowers from the yard and used some "French" ribbon for the hanger.
The Honey Comb was another fun project. So fun in fact, that we made several since I happened to have a large storage bag full of popsicle sticks for some reason or another. We spray painted them white and decorated them with flowers and bees.
On the porch we had a sign asking the ladies to take a "menu" from the bucket. The menu's were another project that just sort of evolved. Again, I asked Mr. Wonderful if he had time to cut some small boards for me for the tea party. He said sure so I explained what I wanted and then we went and looked through his scrap wood supply and found an old fence board that was perfect. He sanded it down so that it was nice and smooth, cut them the requested size, rounded the edges and attached the cute little clips I gave him. They were great however the next day I had another idea and asked for one more favor! I thought they would be even better if they could "hang" and asked if he had any old wire and if so could he drill holes in the boards and attach the wire? Of course he had the perfect old wire and he drilled the holes in no time. They turned out great and were perfect for our Patisserie menus. We did not have time to make the board to hang them on so I put them all in the sweet little french tin and it worked great.
The menu boards also held the tea party programs.
The entry had a little awning as well which I loved. It was actually the first one I made since the smaller size made it easier to work with. After a little trial and error it was finished and fit perfectly over the mirror.
