Saturday morning we took a scenic drive south to the Rogue HOP Farm where we met my family for lunch. It is located just outside of Independence along the Willamette River and happens to be across the river from a grass seed farm that my farmer husband worked at during high school, college and early marriage and next to the hop farm that my dad worked at while he was in high school.
A fun trip down memory lane!
A great place for a bike ride.
Food carts are very popular in the city but I had no idea you could find one so far out in the country!
The friendly chickens stopped by to watch as we played fun yard games after lunch.
Of course BEER is the specialty at a HOP Farm
but they do serve ROOTbeer too!
After we finished playing a few games we all walked down to the river past the wonderful old farmhouse. We stopped to look at the turkeys hiding in the bushes near the house, checked out the pigs, barns and machinery and watched tractors hard at work.
Since the farm is next to the river you can also get there by canoe, raft or boat which is fun. We have all floated this part of the river at one time or another and love the view from the water too.
After lunch it was time to head north for another gathering. We drove the backroads, past all the beautiful vineyards and busy farms to another wonderful spot in the country. Our second stop was closer to home and was surrounded by orchards, stables, fruit stands, rows of freshly cut hay, and lots of tall old trees. A perfect setting for an outdoor summer dinner party.
Happy Tuesday!
Great travelogue!!! Love it.
