We found a Peach!

Our Peach Tree hasn’t been producing much fruit in recent years so there was talk that it might be taken out.
Just after those words were spoken again this week the hubs discovered 2 peaches on the back of the tree!
One was perfectly plump and the other one was a bit smaller and okay however it had a few blemishes.
The verdict isn’t in yet,
however,
my guess is that our
🍑 Peach Tree 🍑
will be sticking around after all!

Happy Monday!

A Taste of Summer :: Peach Crumb Bars

It is Peach season and our young little tree produced some big beautiful peaches this summer.
Not quite enough for canning but plenty to just slice up in a bowl with maybe a drizzle of cream on top or even as a topping for ice~cream and then of course some reserved for baking.
After eating one, because of course who can resist eating a fresh warm peach picked right off the tree, it was hard to decide what to make first so crumb bars it was since those are always so quick and simple.
They are also easy to serve which is another good reason for choosing to make crumb bars. You will need some little napkins though because they are, well, a bit crumbly.
In addition, these peachy little treats are quick and easy to make which is especially nice if you are short on time.
I went a bit conservative on the filling for this batch as I have so many peach recipes I want to make and a limited amount of fresh peaches from our tree. The bars were still plenty Peachy though, however, once our tree has its first bumper crop it will be temping to increase the amount of filling, at least a little bit.
A taste of summer in each little square. It doesn’t get better than that!

Happy last day of August!

fruits & vegetables fresh from the garden

One of my favorite things about summer is having fresh fruits and vegetables right at our fingertips. My farmer keeps the crops shipshape and even does nearly all of the harvesting as well as some of the preserving.
As for me, I like to stroll around the yard and graze on warm tomatoes and blueberries.
The birds build their nests each year in the Kiwi where they are hidden by the big leaves.
We have a new peach tree and are excited to have several peaches this first year.
These big green peppers come in handy when we are cooking.
Pumpkins are a must and in all sizes.
We like to spice things up with hot peppers and planted several varieties.
This is our new Braeburn Apple tree with a small but really nice first year crop of apples.
This hummingbird feeder was a  gift from my farmer and it is between the lavender and the Braeburn Apple Tree.
The old pear tree is loaded with fruit this year and we also have a new Bing cherry tree which has tripled in size but did not produce any cherries. Hopefully we will have a good crop next summer.

Happy Tuesday!

late summer backyard harvest

September has arrived and at it is beginning to feel a lot like fall which means it is time to pick our Honeycrisp apples as well as our...
 mini pumpkins,
 Alberta peaches and Bartlett pears.
Our new little peach tree had 7 peaches this year which we were very excited about. Since there were so few though we just decided to slice them up and eat them. Our old pear tree, on the other hand, was loaded and we are currently in the process of drying them. We do save some for baking and also to share. We have another pear tree that we planted last year. It also produced some nice big pears but only a half dozen or so which we will be picking soon.
The mini pumpkins are so cute and are ready and waiting for decorating or possibly for cooking. If I can't decided I will probably do both however not for a few more weeks! In the meantime, I am making pickles and will be back soon with more about my canning.

Have a wonderful day!

Summer Baking

A busy week in the kitchen!
We had some peaches on our trees that were ripe so I made some Peach Cobbler cookies.
They were so good!
We took some of them to a dinner at a friends house and they liked them too.
Our peach tree had quite a few peaches this year but not enough to can so a good reason to try something new.
The cookies were great ( at least we thought so 😉) so I decided to take them with us to dinner at a friends house to see what they thought. They were a hit!
I also made some cupcakes to take, so I made one of their favorites . . . German Chocolate Cupcakes! Both desserts were winners!
Luckily we had a few cupcakes back at the house as well as some cookies so we are set for a couple more days.

Have a Sweet Thursday!
