Election Day is HERE!

It is election night, the poles are closed and the votes are in!

Why not celebrate with a Patriotic Dinner?

A festive Red, White and Blue Table set the theme.

Then we will serve up some Red, White and Blue Spaghetti!

Theme colored Jello Jigglers are a must.

With a dollop of whipped cream, of course!

A small batch of Patriotic Cupcakes is just the right amount for two.

Our simple little celebration dinner is ready. 

It doesn't get better than that!

Let the counting begin!!

more PUMPKIN on the menu :: cake & soup

It is pumpkin season once again and that means all of the old favorite pumpkin recipes come out and new ones are tried.

Dessert First, as they say!

Pumpkin cake is a must this time of year. This was a new recipe and not quite as good as our favorite one however it was worth a try.

And Curry Pumpkin Soup is perfect for cold and blustery days just like the weather we have been having here lately. 

Comfort food to be sure. 

Don't be surprised if a few more Pumpkin goodies show up here between now and the holidays!

Santa on a Stick

This was such a fun little Christmas tag to make and paper punches made it quick and easy.

The supplies were all just items I had on hand.

This Santa on a Stick would look cute tied to the top of a present, popping out of a parfait or without the stick could be a small gift card. Just open the beard and stamp TO: & From: on the inside and then use a needle to string a piece of ribbon or thread through the hat and attach to a gift. 

Maybe we will use them in parfaits or as name tags on the table.

It will be hard to decide however the holidays are quickly approaching so it is time to start planning. 'Tis the  Season!

Stuffed Cornish Game Hens

A couple weeks ago we heard a rumor that there was a shortage of turkeys for Thanksgiving. At first glance that did appear to be the case so our search began for an alternative, and it did not take long. 

We had considered ham until it was suggested that we serve Cornish Game Hens. Never would I have thought of that as I had not eaten or cooked it before, but, it did pique my interest right away. Visions of little Cornish Game Hens stuffed with dressing and served on a large beautiful platter on Thanksgiving Day was gaining ground as the centerpiece of our menu. However, the practical side of me was thinking it would be best to try making it beforehand just to be sure it was the right choice.

So, we bought two small Cornish Game Hens, stuffed them with traditional dressing, set them on a bed of sliced onions, added some oil and seasoning and then put them in the oven to bake. 

Rice is always good with poultry so we had that too along with some steamed fresh vegetables.

The Cornish Game Hens were delicious and so easy to make! An ideal dinner for one person, a couple or even a crowd. 

We will definitely make them again!

As for Thanksgiving, about a week ago we found plenty of turkeys at the market so we will stick with our original plan and save the Holiday Cornish Game Hen idea for another time.

Wood Block Cats

Just popping in to share one more fun Halloween craft before they are packed away until next year. 

These cute Wooden Black Cats were inspired by my mother who made hers in a class with a group of her friends. While we were chatting about it on FaceTime I took a quick picture, when she held it up, to use as an example just in case I could find time to make one.

However, before there was any chance at all of making a black cat I had to have a wood block cut in the same shape so I checked with the hubs. He just happened to have a perfect leftover scrap from a neighbor who had stopped by recently to have him cut a piece of wood for him. I showed him the picture of what was needed and he proceeded to cut three. We made up our own dimensions and I penciled a "V" to use as a template for the ears. I really liked the rough look of the cedar so did not have him sand it. It reminded me of fur and made them just a little more rustic and a bit more spooky.

Next, I spray painted them black. Once they were dry I gently sanded the edges of the two smaller cats to make them even more rustic.

After making the first one similar to Moms I tried something different for the eyes and collars on the other two cats. 

These cute Wood Block Cats will be a fun new addition to the decorations next fall.

Good Morning Halloween!

Just popping in with a new doodle and...

...a fun little note card envelope. 

These cute little envelopes started as a completely different project however as Halloween approached it occurred to me that the shape resembled a cat or an owl so decided to use black paper and voilá! The googly eyes made it even more fun. The nose/beak is actually the notecard inside the envelope.
