Yesterday I shared the "Vintage Paris" Curtains for the closets and window in the Sorority Study Room. After the curtains were finished we realized we had enough leftover paint drop cloth fabric to make matching "Vintage Paris" Chair Covers. This is how the chairs looked before we covered them.
I actually took my sewing machine and set it up in the study room and made the chair covers there since I did not have measurements or a template of the chairs to work with at home. I also brought a staple gun and a screwdriver to securely attach the seat covers to the cushion. While the girls prepared for recruitment/rush I sat in the room and sewed and visited with members and alums that stopped by to check out the room.
I had a lot of long narrow pieces of fabric leftover and decided to make a small, simple ruffle along the bottom of the chair cover back. I left the bottom edge unfinished and frayed to give it a more vintage look. When the girls got back to the room and saw the ruffle I had added they liked it, which was a relief since I hadn't passed that by them for approval,
however,
it was nothing a seam ripper could not have fixed.
To decorate the back of the chair covers I printed a french graphic and fused it to pieces of the drop cloth to give the chairs more of a "Vintage Paris" look. We decided not to put anything on the other side of the chair back or seat since it would be facing the desk and would get worn off with use.
The chair covers were easy to make, coordinated with the room theme and satisfied the requirements of the sorority room committee. Another fun project!
I will post the
Sorority Room Reveal
tomorrow
so you can see all the projects and how the room looked when we were finished.
Happy Friday!
Do we have to wait until tomorrow? I want to see it now. The chairs turned out darling!
ReplyDeleteThe chair covers turned out so great!! I'm sure that really gave the room a finished and coordinated look.
