This year my annual Mother’s Day Tea Party traveled to a new location. One of my sisters was planning a Flower Potting Day at our folks place so I decided while she and Mom were outside working on that I would set up a surprise tea party.
It was easy to choose a theme since the day was focussed on potting flowers. To get things ready I first planned the menu about a week before hand, then started a to~do list and began gathering supplies. Next, I set out some baskets a few days ahead to use for packing the things needed to set the table and deliver the food. The afternoon and evening before the party I began to prepare for the baking, assembly and plating which began early the next morning.
Once we arrived I began by putting on my gardening apron. I made it years ago and thought it was the perfect choice for this party.
Next I set the table using small quilts our mother had made as table toppers as well as basket liners.
A small batch of chocolate Flowerpot Cupcakes were perfect for the theme. My pots were a smidge too big for my cupcakes but they still looked pretty cute. The “dirt” on top of the frosting was actually shredded chocolate.
Fresh Lemon Scones are heavenly on their own however they are even better with a dollop of homemade Devonshire cream.
Since this was a morning tea party I thought little egg salad and BLT sandwiches would be perfect.
Chocolate covered strawberries are a must have at our tea parties. One time I forgot to make some and was quickly asked about them. Needless to say, they have been on the menu ever since.
These wonderful little Lemon Meltaway Cookies went well with our flower potting theme also.
And last but not least....Party Favors!
These Lavender grow kits coordinated perfectly with the theme along with a cute pair of garden gloves for each of the ladies. It was meant to be.
The little Traveling Tea Party was a success. In fact, the guys even joined us for tea and dainty treats for the first time so they now know what fun we have at our special
Mother~Daughter Tea Parties.
Happy Thursday!
