Food Week :: Pear Pie

Our pear trees are loaded with fruit again this year. In fact, it might be the best crop we have ever had.
The first ripe pears are always used for our favorite fresh Pear Pie.
Our mother always made this delicious Pear Pie for our family with pears picked from their trees so it brings back wonderful memories every time I make it.
The crop was great this year so pies will not be the only thing made with all these beautiful pears.
Some will be canned, some dried and hopefully a batch or two of pear chutney will be preserved as well. YUM!

Food Week :: ZUCCHINI Pancakes & Soup

The zucchini in our garden is always plentiful and usually more than we can keep up with. 
However, we try and use as much as possible and have some favorite recipes we make year after year.
Zucchini Pancakes is one of my savory sides. They are great with butter and a dollop of sour cream on top. 
Another great option is Zucchini Soup which tastes great on a chilly day. There are lots of tasty choices for this versatile fruit including sweet treats which will be posted here soon!

Food Week :: "oven roasted" Tomato Basil Soup

Fresh oven~roasted Tomato Basil Soup is one of our favorite ways to use our abundance of tomatoes.
It is very similar to the Tomato Sauce that we also make in
large batches, freeze and use over the winter
in recipes that call for canned tomato sauce,
but fresh is so much better.
Roasting the tomatoes enhances the flavor.
Onions and garlic are always added. 
And of course some garden fresh basil. 
It doesn't get better than that!
This is comfort food at its finest!!

Food Week :: Birthday Bundt Cake

It has been a busy couple weeks getting ready for school and wrapping up the summer activities so there is a lot to catch up on, especially in the kitchen. So much so that I have decided to make this

and share everything we have been baking, canning, freezing, grilling, etc. And, what better way to start things off than with...

This Chocolate Chip Bundt Cake is loaded with chocolate chips, topped with chocolate frosting and is delicious. We actually waited until after school to cut the cake, which worked out the best.
It was a fun way to celebrate.
