Elementary School Raised Gardens

Our New School has an amazing garden area. The kids and teachers enjoy them at recess and I am sure they get a lot of visitors after school hours as well.

The beets are doing well and so are the tomatoes. 

The kids can eat the produce in the garden however I have not witnessed that yet.

The Sunflowers are already very tall and some are in full bloom.

A variety of squash are among the veggies in the boxes.

And, all sorts of colorful flowers are blooming in between.

Cucumbers anyone? 

They are ready to pick.

Basil and other herbs and flowers fill designated boxes. 

During recess kids check out the bugs and bees on the flowers while others play chase and hide in between the boxes. 

Green peppers are plentiful. 

The pumpkins will be ready in the next few weeks. YAY!

Such a beautiful area and great place for kids to play and explore.

It doesn’t get better than this!

Oktoberfest 2024

Last weekend we celebrated Oktoberfest with our neighbors and friends. 

It has become an annual event and the preparation begins months earlier with meetings and then a big brew day several weeks before. The pig is ordered weeks ahead due to the size. He picks it up about 5 days ahead {give or take} to be sure it has ample time to thaw. This year we had an 85lb pig so it took a good 5 days to thaw. 

The pig is always stuffed with lots of herbs, fruit and vegetables which gives it a wonderful flavor. Mr. Wonderful is up around 3:00am to get it started on his DIY Rotisserie so that it is ready on time. He usually has one or two neighbors that get up to help him. 

It is also injected with juices for more flavor. 

Not only do we roast a pig but we like to grill chickens as well. This year we roasted six. 

Everyone chips in on set up so it goes pretty fast.

And there is always a dance floor and lots of music.

The hubs usually asks me to make German Chocolate Cupcakes and I aim to please. 

They are a popular dessert!

It is always a fun time!

We moved the date up a few weeks this year. It worked out great and was a beautiful day for it. Another fun neighborhood get together!!

Backyard Bunny Spotting!

Each year, at some point between spring and summer, we seem to have bunnies in our backyard.

This is the first time I was able to get a picture of it so close. It helped that it was at the back door.

It did not stick around for  a long time however it was fun to see it up close! Before I knew it it had hopped away.  Fun while it lasted!

Outdoor Cooking…Chicken Fajitas

Chicken Fajitas are one of our favorite quick and easy meals. 

The only draw back is the grease and smoke it creates inside the house, however, we have a new and improved way of doing it now.

We tried grilling it outdoors and it worked perfectly. 

No more splatter or smell in the house, which is so nice. 

And, clean up was so easy!

We served it up in flour tortillas for a

No fuss, No muss Dinner!

Just the way we like it.
