backyard birds

We have three bird nests in our backyard this year. One in our clematis which is wrapped around our bird feeder and two in our kiwi. Since the kiwi is attached to the overhang in front of our dining room window we have a pretty good view of the nests from inside the house as well as outside and have been watching them since their construction in the spring. Last night while we were sitting on the patio, tending to the BBQ, we spotted one of the sweet little babies poking its head out over the edge of  its soft grass house in the kiwi while the mother bird was flying back and forth to the apple tree. It is becoming harder to see the birds inside the nests now that the kiwi branches are covered with big new leaves that are partially obstructing the view but thanks to my little camera I could zoom in for a better look. Earlier in the day I watched as one of the baby birds was learning to fly so I'm sure they will all be leaving their nests  soon but for now we enjoy watching them and listening to them sing.

Happy Friday!
